In the 1970s, watch brands were trying to figure out what to do with the quartz movements that were decimating the mechanical watch, and there were some rather innovative designs that came from the era. Most recognizable from that time are the ones with red tube displays, such as this limited-edition reissue known as the Girard-Perregaux Casquette Saint Laurent watch.

For this limited-edition done up along with Saint Laurent, the ceramic case and titanium accents are done up in black, which makes the red LEDs stand out all the more sharply. More than just being a simple “figure out how to make a block fit your wrist”, the Girard-Perregaux Casquette Saint Laurent watch also offers chronograph capabilities, as well as displaying the time in a second time zone.

If you’re looking for one of these stealthed-out limited editions (only 100 are being made), you’ll have to go to either the Saint Laurent Rive Droite stores in Paris and Los Angeles, as well as online via the official Saint Laurent Rive Droite store (in selected countries only) to pick one up. Should the $6,700 premium on this release cause issue, or just getting to those stores, the Casquette 2.0 is also out there (in a paler shade of grey) for $4,700. ysl.com
