Today continues the spate of hands-on reviews we’ve been bringing you lately.  This time around, it’s a brand that I don’t believe we’ve looked at here in some time (2009 was the last mention) – Diesel.  Specifically, we’ve got a sample of the DZ7122 provided to us by the folks at WatchCo.com.

This is very much a large (in-charge?) watch.  Though it measures in at 40mm (12mm thick), it wears much larger on the wrist.  Thankfully, the integrated leather strap helps snug it to your wrist as much as it can.

Under the all black exterior we of course have a quartz heart that offers up the following:

  • Hours / minutes / seconds
  • Month / day / date
  • A second time zone which can have independently set date and time
  • Alarm
  • Countdown time

All in all, fairly standard stuff for a quartz.  Though, I must admit, I was a little intrigued (and slightly confused) as to why the second time zone could be set to any date / time.  Regardless, something to offer a little variety from the other watches then that are also 50m water resistant.

So, if this watch won’t win on technical merits alone, it truly comes down to the style.  The stainless steel case is black ion plated, and the reverse display offers up plenty of black as well (contrasting that is the soft blue backlight); needless to say, the soft leather strap is midnight black as well.

So, who is this watch for?  I have to admit, it’s not completely to my preferences.  When I strap on a digital, it’s because I’m going to be outdoors and/or doing something more athletic – whereas this watch is definitely more style-oriented.  It’s also a touch large for my tastes, but again, that’s just me.  That said, this is a watch that could easily enough transition from the office to a night out.  If you feel this watch is up your alley, the folks at WatchCo do have it on offer currently for $140; this and other Diesel watches they have can be found here.
