Today, we’re going to have a look at a watch from one of the newer brands on the market, Irreantum.  How new are they?  The company was founded in 2009 by Matt & Courtney Wilson, and took the company name from a South Semitic word that means “many waters.”  As you’ll see, this is rather fitting for watch line.

Well, I should amend that.  At this time, they’ve only got one model available, the Magellan, with five different variations.  When you first see the watch case, you can very quickly tell that this was a model inspired by the dive watches of the ’60s – and when you look at the specs, you can tell there have been some serious modernization upgrades applied.  Those specs are:

  • 45mm stainless steel case (13.6mm thick)
  • ETA 2824-2 Automatic movement
  • Sapphire crystal with AR coating on the underside
  • Super LumiNova C3 lume
  • 500 meter water resistance
  • Signed screw-down crown
  • Bracelet:  22mm with push-button deployant clasp and built-in ratcheting extension
  • Ratcheting uni-directional bezel

So, as you can see, there’s a lot jammed into this watch.  If you’re just a fan of the older dive watch styles, this will be right up your alley.  On the other hand, if you really want to go diving with the watch, this will work well for also, with the water resistance and ratcheting extension.

I had the opportunity to spend some time with one of their limited-edition models, which features a black carbon-fiber dial and white hands.  In daily wear, I found it to be perfectly comfortable.  Of course, if you’re not used to steel watches, the full 7.5 oz (212g) might feel a bit heavy for you; for me, it wasn’t an issue.  For the rest of my thoughts on this watch, you’ll need to tune in tomorrow.
