In 1997, a team of sport and fashion lovers wanted to come up with a watch that would work for the younger, sportier man. They called it the Shark namebecause most sharks in the ocean never stop swimming. If they do they will sink. This was a perfect parallel to the vitality of younger men and their approach to fashion: Always changing and trying new ideas.

I was able to spend some time with one of their watches, the Tawny Shark. The watch came in a pretty cool carbon fiber looking watch box. First impression is that it is simplistic, yet bold, large, but not flashy. It has red rings set against the black dial this is sure to get some attention.

I have always been a fan of large watches. With a width of 48mm and thickness is 14mm, this fit just fine. This case is covered in a matté black finish with the crown positioned at the 8 o’clock position. The position of the crown is nice because there is no stabby parts jabbing into my wrist.

On the dial there is not much more than a logo and name. The dial is a dark black with the date wheel sitting just below the red planetary rings. They say this watch took inspiration from planetary circulation and this fits their theme well. It looks like a planet sitting alone in the dark, black universe. The hands are the same black as the dial, which would be hard to see if not for the white tips. The second hand is very hard to see in low light due to it being all black. A red tip on that second had would really help.

The straps are thick but the leather is very soft, so they wrap nicely around the wrist. There was no stiffness at all with these straps. The pin buckle is flush with the strap and has the Shark Watch name stamped on it. The red accent stitching I the leather pairs well with the watch.

This watch retails for a very budget-friendly price of $89.00. Many watches in this price range tend to be light and hollow, and this one is not. It is very solid, and weighs in at 100 grams. For the price, this is a well-made quartz watch and would appeal to anyone who likes to change things up now and then and not break the bank. You can check them out at www.shark-watch.com.
