A small watch company called Balor is bringing a bit of class to the traditional quartz chrono category. These watches, called the Decadent Time series, feature a flyback chronograph with minutes register at 9 o’clock plus a 24-hour register at 3 o’clock. The entire package hides its quartz roots quite well, creating a very pleasing whole.

As I’ve written before I’m not a fan of quartz chronos. The ticking, running seconds is quite distracting. Balor avoids this by using a movement that mimics a mechanical in almost every way.

Balor is about to launch a Kickstarter and they sent me these pieces quite early. That said, I really like them. The styling is very Breguet meets Omega and the fit and finish – from the beautiful face to the great bands – shows me these guys actually care.

I’m going to check back with the Balor team to get more detail on the crowdfunding campaign but keep an eye on them. They’ve got a great product and they clearly know how to make a nice watch.
