Even if you’re only casually following what is going on in the watch world, it should be clearly evident that brands are focusing on the past. They’re either drumming up designs that take an old, tried-and-true style and update it for the modern era. On the other hand, there are brands who do an almost literal dive into their archives, and reissue something from their past. It’s that latter category in which we see this old-but-new Fossil Hologram hailing from.
As you might expect, the Fossil Hologram features a hologram quite prominently. In this case, you’ve got the words ‘The Open Road’ showing in one plane, and then with a twist of the wrist, you get a older-style motorcycle showing up. This is a neat approach to a dial, and it makes sense that this first showed up back in the early 90s. There was a lot of holographic stuff showing up then, and even today, it’s an interesting look that we really do not see as frequently as sci-fi would have had us believe (or hope).
I can’t say as to how the original was specced, but this newest version definitely fits to modern tastes, with a 42mm case in a two-tone approach (steel for the main body and a gold-tone top ring). This is paired to a black leather strap. And that’s about the extent of the hard specs that we’ve got on the piece. Then again, at a price of $115 we can safely assume that it’s rocking a quartz movement. And with something like this holographic dial, that’s about all you need to know. This is one watch that’s definitely more for form than function, and is certainly unlike most anything else we see on wrists today.
