There are no end of clever hashtags on social media, it seems. Some I’m aware of (and even have participated in), but one I was not aware of was #FliegerFriday. Well, it’s no surprise it’s there – but what is a suprise is Tutima launching a watch specifically for that hashtag – the limited edition Tutima Flieger Friday Chronograph.

When you think of a pilot’s chronograph, you think of something that’s, well, massively oversized. Surprisingly, that’s not the case here at all with the Tutima Flieger Friday Chronograph. It’s a relatively diminutive 38.5mm diameter, though it does come in at dive-watch thickness of 15.5mm. Still, that’s what it takes to fit that modified ETA Valjoux 7760 movement in there (also known as a Caliber 39) – the very same movement the brand used back in 1939. Through the 1940s, they made approximately 30,000 of the watch, and then there was a re-issue in the 1990s.

And then, here we are again in this year that we will never forget, good old 2020. It was time for another re-issue, and that brings us to the Tutima Flieger Friday Chronograph. Only 25 of these vintage-look beauties will be made (in each colorway), netting a healthy $3,450. I don’t quite get the appeal of an exhibition caseback on a manually wound movement, but I suppose it’ll lend itself to some nice social media shots. If you pick one up for your own #FliegerFriday, just remember to tag us in your photos. tutima.com
