Welcome back to our weekly installment, Watching the Web, where we have a quick look at some interesting watches and articles that have popped up over the last week (or so), as well as taking a second look at what some of our more popular articles this week were. Today, we’ve got a couple of articles on some things that are trying to disrupt the Swiss watch industry.   After those, we’ll highlight (as usual) some of our more popular posts from the last week. Read on to see what we’ve got in store for you.

First up, we’ve got what looks like something that could be very interesting in the world of mechanical watches – a development that would displace the traditional balance wheel, all while giving a 30-day power reserve while maintaining the current mainspring.  Not only does this change up give the increased power reserve (as it is consuming less power), it is also able to ratchet up the accuracy of the movement.  Get the full rundown over at aBlogtoWatch.

Apple-Watch-Dial-Profile-3

Next up, we are going to talk about the Apple Watch (yes, it showed up last week as well).  This time around, we have word from another brand founder in the Swiss watch world that I have not seen picked up on other watch sites – Benzi Rosenski, the CEO and co-founder of Torgoen.  While most other sites have focused on comments from luxury Swiss brands, I think it is fitting we can hear from someone on the more affordable end of the spectrum.  Check out Rosenski’s editorial right here.

Rolex Deep Sea Challenge

Now, let’s turn the attention back to our own pages.  First and foremost, you all really loved what Matt put together in last week’s Historical Horology series entry.  In the post, he starts off by talking about how he got into watches (and dive watches specifically), before getting into some of the functionality that makes a watch a dive watch.  Once those are out of the way, he then jumps in to some of the history of dive watches.  It is an interesting read – if you haven’t already, you can read it here.

Tissot-Visodate-Milanais-01

Next up, we have our article introducing you to the Tissot Visodate Milanais.  This was a watch that I was pleasantly surprised to come across, and I think provides some healthy competition for fellow Swatch brand Hamilton, in terms of a well-executed “heritage” design.  This is a sharp little watch, and it is one we have been spending some time with, so you can keep an eye out for a hands-on review here in the near future.

And last, but not least, a question: do you have your entries in for our current giveaway? It’s September, so that means we’ve got a brand new contest going on. Head on over here to get your entries in.

With that, we’ll wrap things up. As always, if there’s something you think we should be covering, feel free to drop us a line. If you bring something up that we end up writing about, we’ll be sure to tip our hats (electronically, if not literally) in your general direction.  Oh, and should you feel inclined to whip up a new logo for this recurring feature (to replace that web picture up top), use that same email address, and we’ll see what we can work out.
