Rick Marei’s retro-themed brand, Synchron, has unveiled its latest creation, the Synchron Military Poseidon Black Edition. This new timepiece is arguably the most traditional Military model yet, featuring a black dial for improved legibility compared to its predecessors.

Synchron

Since its resurrection in March 2021, Synchron has delighted watch enthusiasts with two models that pay homage to the 1970s Doxa Army. These limited-edition pieces have been well-received for their unique aesthetics and fun design. The brand’s first release, the Military Diver model, was a clear tribute to the Doxa Army and sold out within hours of its launch, despite a minor controversy due to Marei’s previous affiliation with Doxa.

In January of this year, Synchron returned with its second limited-edition offering, partnering with Swedish dive-gear maker Poseidon. This collaboration resulted in the Military Poseidon, a timepiece featuring a new color scheme and handset, and powered by the La Joux-Perret G10 with a 68-hour power reserve.

This model, limited to a run of 1,000 pieces, also sold out quickly. The Military Poseidon Black Edition is the brand’s latest offering. It retains the same set of hands as its predecessor but improves legibility with a black dial. The dial deviates from previous Synchron releases, which typically feature a black outer ring running along the luminous hour indices.

Features

In contrast, the Poseidon Black Edition’s dial is entirely black, a change that may appeal to those seeking a more traditional and familiar design. The glossy dial, paired with a 120-click unidirectional dive bezel with a sapphire inlay, gives the watch a sleek, high-end appearance. The watch also incorporates yellow elements from Poseidon’s logo on the minute and sweep-seconds hands, which complement the white brand logo, minute track, and “Old Radium” Super-LumiNova.

The date wheel, with its black font and white background, adds further contrast. The Poseidon Black Edition maintains the technical specifications of previous Synchron releases. It features a 316L stainless case with a diameter of 42mm, a lug-to-lug of 45mm, and a thickness of 14mm. The 20mm lug spacing accommodates a variety of strap options, including the provided black or yellow Tropic rubber strap. The watch’s screw-in case back and signed screw-down crown ensure water resistance up to 300 meters.

The automatic La Joux-Perret G10 movement powers the timepiece. The Poseidon Black Edition, like its predecessors, embodies a vintage aesthetic while offering modern reliability. It’s versatile enough to complement various outfits and occasions, making it an ideal daily wear.

Price

The watch addresses previous criticisms regarding design and readability, making it a promising choice for both fans of Marei’s work and newcomers who appreciate a well-crafted retro diver. The Synchron Military Poseidon Black Edition will be a limited edition of 1,000 pieces, with shipping expected to start in October 2023. The price will start at US$990 and increase to US$1,290 after an introductory period. The watches will be sold exclusively on the Synchron website.
